Preschool (Cycle 1)

In the French education system, compulsory education starts from preschool (3 years old).

Objectives :
– Use the French language in all dimensions
– Act, express, and understand oneself through physical activities
– Act, express, and understand oneself through artistic activities
– Build the first tools to structure one’s thinking
– Explore the world

Elementary school (Cycle 2 and 3)

Becoming proficient in the French language and in the basics of mathematics are the primary objectives of the elementary school
so students can use these fundamental tools that are necessary for further learning.
In Cycle 2, the program includes teaching students how to question the world, as well as artistic, physical, and moral and civic education.
In Cycle 3, students consolidate what they have learned in these areas, and they also discover science and technology, history and geography.
The school takes into account the diverse skills of each student. In addition to reasoning and intellectual reflection, the meaning of observation,
the pleasure of experimenting, emotional sensitivity, motor neural development and creative imagination are developed.

“Children need us even though they can manage to do things by themselves.
The objective of education is to help them develop their potential and to help them adapt to the environment.
Each child needs to be surrounded by lots of intelligent care, respect and love so that their potential can reach its fulfillment.
The gardeners who take care of their flowers and the shepherds who look after their lambs are full of attention and patience.
Since all children have in them such potential for joy and sufferings and also an eternal destiny, don’t we need to take care of them
thousand times more? Even though a human being might be so fragile, he has the infinite resonances, the unsearchable profundity,
and his own words.”

Middle school (Cycle 4)

6th grade (6e) : The last grade in Cycle 3, which is the consolidation cycle, must lead students to adapt to the organization and life in middle school as well as to continue what they have been learning for the first two years of Cycle 3.

7th, 8th, 9th grades (5e, 4e and 3e) : The objective of Cycle 4, the deepening cycle, is to enable students to develop their skills in various disciplines and in multidirectional courses. Special attention is given to the development of their career. (Parcours Avenir) Artistic and cultural education and citizenship education enable students to build confidence in their essential capacity to face the abundant new knowledge and new technologies in the world. At the end of the 9th grade, students take the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB) exam.

Homework

Students’homework cannot be separated from what has been taught in the classes.
Study halls are included in their schedules.
They learn to have a desire to produce quality work, to be organized and to accomplish
the personal reflection autonomously.

High school

High school offers students a broad base of common subjects including humanities and science as well as speciality subjects chosen by the student. Electives help students complete their education and prepare them for post-secondary education. Throughout the high school years, individual career guidance helps students choose their career which leads to courses in university.
Students take the Baccalauréat exam at the end of the 11th and 12th grades.

About us:

At the heart of the creation of the Lycée International Xavier lies the belief that education, serving the youth, is one of the most noble and important task one can dedicate one’s life to. Let me share with you a few of my convictions.

First of all, I am convinced that children are people who deserve to be respected and served, and not used in order to achieve goals we would set for them. Should you try to change a rose into a lily, you would destroy it.

In spite of statistics and forecasts, who knows what challenges new generations will have to cope with? We should therefore not provide them with ready-made recipes or answers. In a totally new context, these may well prove to be useless. Our most important task is to teach them to think for themselves, to analyze and understand reality as it presents itself to them.

And, following Socrates’ example, a teacher’s role is to guide her students towards the quest for the Truth, the Good and the Beautiful. Let me emphasize the word “quest” for it is humanity’s greatness to open themselves to what lies beyond them.

Finally, I would quote a maxim, famous in the history of French education. It was uttered by Rabelais, a late Middle Ages writer well-known for his work’s comical strength: “Science without conscience is but the ruin of the soul”.

Say a student dedicates all her efforts to accumulate knowledge, pursuing the sole purpose of her own personal success; I believe that, in reality, she is narrowing her personality. Is it not an important aspect of Korean education, that you should produce a man keen on serving the greater good?

The new generation will face many challenges to keep the world a peaceful place and guarantee justice and truth. May we become the guides who will help them achieve the best of their dreams.
